DVT (deep vein thrombosis) Ultrasound Scan

This test uses ultrasound to produce images of the veins in your legs. The veins carry blood from the extremities back to the heart. This test is a safe and effective way to assess if there are any clots in the deep veins of your legs. These blood clots are often called a deep vein thrombosis or DVT.

Why have a DVT ultrasound scan?

This is routinely done to confirm suspicion of thrombosis/blood clot following concerns of a unilateral leg swelling, pain or skin discolouration.

How do I get the results

After the examination the sonographer will explain the findings to you.
However, as we do not always have your full medical history or all your test results we may not be able to comment on everything we see on the scan. A comprehensive report will be sent to your doctor after the examination & you will be asked to contact your doctor after the scan.

“I wanted to thank you enormously for your help and kindness last Friday. After weeks of upset, uncertainty and very little support from the NHS I finally could rely on you to help me and I don’t know how to thank you enough. I successfully had the operation on Saturday and Christopher was superb in all respects. Finally I can put the the last six weeks behind me and move on which is all thanks to you. I am now on holiday and enjoying some much needed R and R!”
